Out With The Old

My clothes pin apron is looking pretty sad these days. Threadbare and one tie torn off it has seen it's last round trip to the clothes line. What's a girl to do.

Why just go on online and find some ideas and some scrap denim and make me a new one.

I saw one in an etsy shop so if you want a similar pattern she is selling a PDF pattern
Similar Etsy Pattern

As for me I just kind of looked at it and winged it. Notice mine has a square bottom as opposed to her round one. I think if I make any more I would make them a little bigger.

Everything was scrounged around my sew stash. An old wooden hanger, some scrap ricrac, lace and a couple buttons out of the button jar.

Guess my clothes line is ready for spring!

Maybe I'll take that old apron and take it apart and make me a new one of those while I am at it : )

  1. Great job! I am similar in that I will learn an entirely new craft just to be able to make something I see and like. Makes life more interesting, especially in the winter months!

  2. Sigh....Hanging clothes out on the line is one of my favorite things to do. I know, what an exciting life I lead. But for me it's quiet time and knowing i'm not using anything but my own energy.

  3. I love it! I'm about to put up a clothes line for this year's drying. Forgot completely about how to hold the clothes pins! May not get such a lovely hangar as this one though.

    1. When I was a child my mother would take a toddler dress, sew across the bottom and put it on a hanger. She recycled something that was old and made something useful. This past year when I decided to hang clothes out I could not find a used little dress anywhere. Then one day when we were in an Amish community I stopped at a Amish garage sale and found a dress with a pinafore for 10 cents. I sewed across the bottom of the dress and then sewed the bottom and part way up the pinafore and now I have 2 clothes pin bags that cost me a whole 10 cents. You can hop over here to see a picture of them.

    2. Beautiful! I have seen this done before. Unfortunately I do not have any toddler dresses and this material was handy in my scrap fabric box. I do think I will be on the look out in the future for some small dresses at yard sales for this purpose though.

    3. Paula, that is exactly what Mama would do. I was amazed when I found out that people bought clothes pin bags.

  4. That is the prettiest clothes pin bag I have ever seen. As you see I have a thing for demin. All my purses are made of demin. Now if I could find one that looked like your clothes pin bag Boy would that make me happy. (Smile)
I use to make my clothes pin bags but just got lazy. I have a willow laundry basket and I just keep them in it. Now if I had one like your's, I've go back to using a bag again.

  7. What a cute bag! I'm been begging my brothers and husband to put me up a clothesline here. I guess I'm going to have to give in and do it myself or hire the local handyman.

  8. SO cute! I made a clothes pin apron for the first time a couple years ago. I LOVE it! I don't think I will ever go back to a bag on the line. But yours is TOO cute!

  9. So adorable! And I love that you scrounged from "the stash" instead of just going out and buying new. I've been trying to find good, strong, American-made clothespins and was dismayed to find out that the last plant that made them closed. So sad.

    1. Herrick Kimball over at the Deliberate Agrarian blog will start selling American made clothes pins in the future for that very reason. When he does I will be the first in line to buy some : )

    2. I've been anxiously awaiting them going on sale, since I saw his posts about the design awhile back. I'm crossing my fingers that his ideas become a reality. We may be fighting each other to be first in line! :-)

  10. Very fancy!! I like it.

I have an old clothes pin hanger I've had since I can remember, just redress it now and then. The girls were excited when I made them each one with their old tiny t-shirts.
