Monsters

It's the year of the monster cabbage. We are really not exactly sure what we did but it must have been right. Or who knows maybe it is just the year of  the cabbage. These Early Jersey Wakefield Cabbage are getting huge. Bigger than they have ever been.  That's a yardstick in the picture above laying on top of that cabbage head. It has the traditional pointed head typical of that variety but just larger.

And look how tall..

The middle of the head measuring a good 21 inches from the ground.

The only thing I can say is that it must have been some potent rabbit poop !

God knows it's not from an abundance of rain..

Next year they will probably be the size of golf balls : )

Anyone else out there got monster cabbage this year?

  1. These are huge and beautiful!!!

We have none left, the deer however did enjoy them. I will remember that as I eat some tender backstrap this fall.

  3. Cabbage is one of the few things I don't grow but I did pick up some up at the Farmer's Market that was far beyond anything I've ever seen! About twice as big as any head I've ever seen, actually! Wow!

    1. I think maybe the growing conditions this year were just really good for cabbage. Every year there is always one vegetable that excels in the weather conditions for that year. Last year it was potatoes. This year it is cabbage I think. I declare it the year of the cabbage : )
