Compost

Remember that new compost bin that O Wise One built me?

With grass cutting, and weed pulling and animal bedding being cleaned regularly we have been making regular additions to the bins. The above wheelbarrow load is from the pig pen. Lately we have been pulling up lots of old plants from the garden too.

Can you believe that it is just the end of June and I already have two of the bins full. Sure hope it settles quick. After all I have a lot of gardening season yet to go.

  2. Compost is a wonderful addition to a garden. I used to have a bin, similar to yours. Then I added a new garage and the bin was dismantled to be replaced by one of those plastic types with a lid. I can't easily keep it wet or even turn it to keep it cooking. I filled it up 6 years ago, and the same leaves are in there. I don't have compost. I have a "compost bin" full of yard debris that is 6 years old.

Now, when I rake leaves or pull up garden plants, etc. I pile it on one garden bed or another and till it right into the soil. So kind of crazy how composting works in some places or containers and not at all in others.
