It's A Heat Wave

As the week draws to a close God has indeed decided to take pity on us. The high today is predicted to hit 53. It is indeed a heat wave. We have been looking at a snow covered landscape for most of the month. In town the piles of snow cleaned from the roads are over the traffic signs. No where else to put it. In the country the winds draws ripples in it.

Children make hand prints and snow angels.

Little black dogs play in it and try to find the vole trails beneath it.

O Wise One shovels it and then shovels it again. This has become a never ending cycle.

But for today we count our small blessings. We can see the sidewalk.

My plants sleep beneath it. Blanketed and protected from the killing winds and ice.

Waiting to awaken from that long sleep again and the promise of warmth and spring rains.

This has been a busy week of mending and sewing. I made laundry soap, and oiled all my wooden spoons. We pretended it was spring and feasted on bell peppers stuffed with ground beef and rice stuffing. Corn on the cob and oven fried breaded squash. Homemade French Bread and Pizza Casserole for Baby O. And I even made a big pot of chicken Gumbo which we enjoyed with warm buttered corn bread.  And I made an apple pie that was wonderful.

We rarely venture into town nowadays and then only to grab that gallon of milk and pick up Baby O from various school activities.  We are content to eat from the pantry and freezer. To spend our days making sure the animals are cared for in this bitter cold. To catch up on our reading and chores. We have noticed with the budget cuts that they are treating the roads much less and grading the snow rarely. I guess like the rest of the nation we just tighten our belts and postpone traveling unless absolutely necessary. With gas prices on the rise maybe that is a good thing.

But for today we enjoy the sunshine!

Wishing everyone a safe and happy weekend....
