Garden Porn

Those green beans will be going in the jars next week. No rest for the wicked. My usual jade variety.

Plain old time petunias. Modest and prolific reseeding freely throughout the gardens.

My first blackberries

Cucumbers on the fences

In the last 10 years on this blog you have seen this old girl haul every thing known to man from vegetables to grandkids. She has retired to her final resting place to lounge in the sun and house flowers and herbs until she eventually just rots away. She was a dependable old girl. Kind of like her owner.

O Wise One is in the process of installing rain barrels on all existing outbuildings and down spouts. This on is waiting for gutter but he wants to repaint the shed first. He wants to paint this shed and the new chicken and duck houses at the same time.

How is that for a fence. The big dogs kept chasing one another through there playing so he put up a fence. It is high to run plants on. He put an arch at the gate and we want Ballerina pink roses on the arch. Have to find some first! That is HIS favorite rose. That's when you know you have a good man ladies. When they have a favorite rose.  Told ya'll it was a match made in heaven.

And a new sidewalk too

Well that is what we have been working on! Always busy.

Blessings from The Holler

  1. Love your new fence and gate. Roses will look beautiful climbing on it.
It is a busy garden time of year, for sure. I checked the berry bushes this morning and some of the currants and Saskatoon blueberries are ready to process.
I always look forward to your posts.

    1. Yum. What do you do with your currants. This is the first year mine have made and I won't get very many but unsure of the best way to use them.

    2. Current jelly is delicious. Sometimes I juice them and mix the juice in with our plums when I make plum conserve (minus the nuts due to nut allergies amongst grandchildren)

  2. Happy Friday!
Love the pics! Reseeding petunias sound awesome! They are lovely!

I've been babying my potsy garden. I found my first yellow squash fully grown this morning. Lots of babies but I was worried about pollination since they haven't been growing. Thrilled that I have one big one anyway. I've been making a few of my old favorites in the kitchen. Avoiding trips to the store and using only grocery pickup forces me to make things from scratch that I used to make all of the time. Yesterday on breaks waiting on email replies I made yogurt, granola, and mixed up a batch of oatmeal peanut butter cookies. I baked the cookies this morning when it was cooler and I open up the house. Our tiny house heats up quite a bit when the oven is on. We smoked a pork loin last weekend and neither of us was very fond it it so I made BBQ sauce last night for BBQ pulled pork using those leftovers. It was delicious and we couldn't get enough. We have a pool and the water is nice and warm. Lots of night swims. Enjoying that Missouri finally has some warm weather!! Also - mulched my in ground small garden with grass clippings. Fighting lots of rain this spring that washed away most of the good dirt so when it rains, I can't even get in it for days because of mud. Grass clippings usually help retain moisture in dry times and at least help me walk in the garden when we get a wet spell. I planted a few pumpkin seeds and baby plants in open spaces.

Holding our own during this virus and staying well so far. Really praying for unity in our country as well. Take care and stay healthy!

    1. Just an old fashioned heirloom petunia. We have been doing curbside grocery pickups as well. Trying to stay away from people as much as possible. Your cookies sound wonderful. I made zucchini bread. Joining you in prayers.

  3. LOL. No rest for the wicked is right! My mom always said that (Wheat, milo, soybean farmers, cows & pigs, huge garden etc) and she was right. From one avid gardener/producer to another, I see and appreciate all the work when I see these pics. It's this way this time of year for me--I start feeling so overwhelmed and question why do I do this?!? But I know why.
We've gotten rains the last two nights so I'm feeling some reprieve--but of course, that ups the weed issues. Our tomatoes are just starting to ripen. Have 23 plants so I know I'll be canning soon.
He does sound like a keeper! So good to have someone to work alongside you!

  5. I know Gumball wait till I get my roses on it and maybe some flowers at the bottom along the sidewalk on the inside. Maybe an herb that smells as you brush it. Stay safe
