Apples

Apples are ripe and we are knee deep in them! Such a busy week and I am afraid I have fallen behind on posts. I did manage to get apple pie filling and cinnamon apple sauce canned. With freezer room at a premium right now my apple pie filling will have to go into jars. For the first time this year I am using Perma Flo because that is what my Amish store had. Much cheaper than Clear Jel and seems to work just as well.

On Monday I watched both grandsons while their Mom traveled to the city to take care of her rental house. This house she purchased when she worked in the city before she married and decided to keep as a rental property hoping that real estate prices will eventually improve. She is getting new renters and has been working on painting, cleaning, upkeep and improvements right now while between renters. I have been helping her with the children. So I will have both babies tonight and tomorrow so I will not be posting again until Monday.

Hope everyone has a safe and blessed weekend.

  1. I can smell that applesauce right now. What a wonderful smell! You will be making pies this winter. Nothing like a good old Apple pie. Our daughter made one for us last week. What a surprise. I am so glad I taught her how to make a pie!!!!!!

  2. Enjoy those babies - what alot of work :).

Your apples look delicious. We hope our tree produces more next year. It is only two years old and we got twelve nice big apples off of it this year.

    Blessings to you.

  3. Yum, I love applesauce! It is also about the only thing I can, while I'm living in a tiny apartment. And I don't think I commented then, but last year was the first time I tried canning and I found your tutorials very helpful, so thanks :) Have fun with the grandkids!

  4. CQ,

What type of apples are your harvesting? I bet the house smells amazing with the warm smell of apples, and cinnamon. Enjoy the grand babies and don't work to hard. How is Baby "O" feeling?

  8. We went and a gleaned some in an orchard where they had picked the yellow delicious apples. I came home with a bunch and have been working on cinnamon applesauce as well. I hope to be able to glean again to be able to pie filling. My neighbors grandmother passed and they are cleaning out her house to sell, she mentioned that they were getting a dumpster to throw so much away and mentioned canning jars. I about fell over. So today sometime I will be headed over to collect FREE jars. The only downside is they are full of old food and will need to be cleaned out before I can put them to use, but FREE is my favorite price to pay so I am ok with a little bit of work!!
