A Brand New Giveaway

What blogs do you read? I read many things during the course of a day but rarely does a morning go by that I don't sit down at my computer with a hot cup of coffee and catch up on my morning blogs. Most of the blogs that I read faithfully are listed on the sidebar of my own blog. They tend to vary greatly but usually pertain to homesteading, cooking, quilting or gardening in some way. None of the sites have been there longer than Thy Hand Hath Provided. Why do I read her blog faithfully ? Because I can relate....A young mother trying to raise her small children, homeschool, garden and can while trying to keep up with the day to day weeding, laundry and general responsibilities of motherhood and keeping a home. I remember fondly my years of canning with a house full of little boys under foot. Those same boys now 37, 35 and 34, no longer living with mama or even in the same state. All 3 now married and with wives and children of their own.  But daily I turn back the clock and relive those days when it seemed I cooked for a small army of little folk and life was a never ending line of cloth diapers hanging on the clothesline.

Thy Hand Hath Provided....You can find me here!

This blog is written by a young woman we will simply call Jane.Recently Jane was nice enough to gift me with a signed copy of her new cookbook appropriately titled Thy Hand Hath provided! You can read all about her cookbook at this link. This cookbook is beautifully done and full of wonderful recipes and even an excellent section on canning and preserving. It even includes my favorite public service announcement on canning overload disorder an ailment that I suffer frequently.

Thy Hand Hath Provided........Asparagus Lemon Pasta

Jane has graciously provided a free cookbook for some lucky Hickery Holler reader to win in a give away. To win your own copy of Jane's cookbook leave a comment below and tell Jane and I what information or recipes you would most like to find in a cookbook.

Please leave an email contact in your comment so that you can easily be notified if you win. This giveaway is for continental US residents only and will end Sunday June 16th at midnight. Monday morning we will let one of Jane's wee ones draw the winning number.

Thy Hand Hath Provided....Beekeeping

Good Luck to you all and in the mean time don't forget to pop on over to Jane's blog and check it out. I think you will enjoy her unique writing style, keen wit and unending ability to find joy and humor in the face of adversity. Their newest endeavor is bee keeping! And don't forget the recipe section because there are some definite keepers there. I use several of her salad dressing recipes regularly. Her honey mustard recipe is divine and a family favorite of ours!

  2. Thanks for the wonderful give away. I think the thing I look for in a recipe is does it pass the "reasonableness" test. By that I mean does it even seem feasible to make, are the ingredients real, does it sound like it will taste good, and does it look like something that won't leave my husband wondering if I have lost my mind. So basically easily identifiable ingredients that taste good.

  4. Thank you for introducing us to Jane. I went over to her site, very nice. As a mom of 3 adult boys (guess I should say they are men now but you know what I mean) and her majesty, in her early 20's, seems we all did very similar things. I heard there is a special place in heaven for moms of 3 boys. Personally I think it's the crazy corner, but oh the fun we'll have if the Good Lord puts us all together. The cookbook looks lovely and such a nice giveaway. I would love to see some ideas for salad dressings as well as any and all recipes using the most commonly canned garden items such as tomatoes, green beans, corn. For meats we primarily eat venison from our back acreage, some venison recipes are always nice. Oh, and some ideas for broths aside from the usual chicken and venison. my email farmwife@live.com

  9. Never enough cookbooks even with the ability to find recipes on the internet. We have come to the point in our lives where we try to eat healthier, put up what food we can buy on sales and try our best to do some gardening even with much shade we can't do anything about on surrounding property. bays1943@gmail.com Thank you for all your informative blogs!!!

  12. I love your blog and can't wait to more thoroughly review Jane's. I'm always looking for new recipes (there are never enough cookbooks). We have a lot of food allergies and have to do a lot of substitutions. It's much easier when you start with good food and simple preparation. mary.hornerhouse@gmail.com

  13. I am always on the lookout for recipes that use the canned food items that I already canned. Sometimes I get in a "rut" and keep using the same recipes over again and need some inspiration to come up with something new but still while using the canned goods from the basement. :) I really enjoy reading this blog and getting good garden and canning advice! tbwarner11@gmail.com

  14. Thank you for the introduction to such a beautiful blog and Christian woman. I will be a faithful follower that is for sure.
IN a cook book I look for different things at different times of the year. In winter months I look for new soups or stews, and in the summer I look for different salads.
To keep things within the budget I need to plan ahead, and cookbooks helps to do that.

  30. Without reading first what others look for in a cookbook and being swayed... LOL.. I admit that I want recipes that do not require a trip to the gourmet section of the super market. Simple nutritious recipes that use the fruits and vegetables we grow and have zip because of added herbs and spices. At our age, simple is better and also gives me more time to quilt!!!!

  36. I enjoy recipes with simple ingrediants...no premixed stuff. I also think it's important for new cooks to have simple charts at their fingertips with important info like what temp to cook various meats to ( the new instant read thermometers don't have room for that info to be printed on them like the old meat thermometers) and charts with info on how to prepare fresh vegtables. My old Betty Crocker has all that and is a great cookbook for a new bride...especially now that so few kids learn to cook at home and Home Ec is disappearing.

  52. When I look through a cookbook I am interested in finding recipes for basic foods; simple and tasty without added ingredients that don't really belong. Cooking and baking have always been fun and I enjoy searching old cookbooks as well as the internet looking for recipes to add to my collection. Growing up I used to stand in the doorway to the kitchen watching my mom cook; she is the best cook and so very creative in the kitchen. My e-mail address is sewsecret (at) g-mail (dot) com.
