A Three Skillet Meal

Anymore I cook almost predominantly with my cast iron pots and skillets. I became concerned with all the information I was reading about the coatings in modern pots and the health implications of ingesting these coatings.

And after years of care my cast iron skillets are almost as stick free as any modern pot.

I even bake pies and cakes in them.

And nothing can beat that crispy crunch that a hot cast iron skillet gives to a corn bread crust.

What's your favorite food cooked in cast iron?

  1. Great idea to stop using those other pans- I love my cast iron skillet! Favorite dishes to cook- slow-fried potatoes and corn bread!

  2. Corn bread. Hands down. How I wish I had my mother's thin cast iron skillet too. It made the best corn bread crust ever!

  3. Fried potatoes and fried chicken. Pizza is good too if you like a thick crust and I do.
You pie looks so good, what kind is it?

  4. Most recently it's been artesian bread made in my 4 1/2 qt. dutch oven. Yum and so easy. I make it at least every other day!

  5. I cook almost exclusively in cast iron too. My mamma & my husband's grandmother both gave me seasoned skillets they had cooked in for years - I use them daily. My favorite food to cook in them is meats. I love getting them very hot, searing the meat well on all sides & finishing in the oven. It's a very healthy way to cook meats & gives them great flavor.

  6. Cobbler and corn bread are my favorite items from a cast iron skillet.
When camping, I love cooking my fish in them too.

  7. I don't have one yet, but I can't wait until I can clean and reseason my pans and use them enough to have a favorite. :o)

Have a great week, CQ! ♥

  8. No doubt, hands down, buttermilk cornbread. If I don't have buttermilk I add a little vinegar to sweet milk and it does the trick. I use my small six inch cast iron for that.
I also add a dash of sugar to my cornmeal, flour, eggs, and buttermilk. Nothing like greens and cornbread in my book...or soup and cornbread.
