Saturday Yardwork

Saturday started warm and sunny. A perfect day for yard work. A day to thin, prune, weed, fertilize and mow. A day for sunscreen and hats and garden gloves. O Wise One and I and two little faithful black puppies tackled all that spring yard work.

Along the way we admired the views. Some planned and nurtured.

Even the smallest of the spring blossoms were no less glorious. Planted by nature, seeds  strewn to the wind. A gift no less precious because they are unexpected.

We also harvested the bounty of our labors.

And at the end of the day we had a full cart of trimmings and still had plenty of work left for another day. Supper was enjoyed around an old stump we were burning out. As the embers of the fire died you could smell the roasting hot dogs as we and the dogs ate our meal under the stars. And dessert was delicious and sticky roasted marshmallows for all.

A long sunny day of hard labor to chase away the memories of those 4 foot snow drifts. The smell of freshly mowed grass. The clucking of the chickens as they settle for the night. A coyote howling in the distance. The hoot of an owl. The warmth of a fire and a clear beautiful star studded spring sky.

Spring envelopes us like an old friend. Sadly missed, greatly anticipated and soon passing to those hot and hurried days of summer. We retire to nurse those sore muscles and shed those sweaty work clothes and we shall sleep soundly only to repeat this another day.
