Homemade Croutons

What do you do with leftover bread? Sometimes I save stale bread in a plastic bag in the freezer. When I have enough I stick in the dehydrator until it is completely dried out and then run it through the food processor. Bread crumbs! If you want them seasoned add Italian seasonings to taste. They can then be put in an airtight container or kept in containers in the freezer.  This is what I do with leftover hot dog and hamburger buns, bread heels or just any bread that has been around just a little too long.

This time I had leftover homemade french bread. So I cut it into chunks and brushed with olive oil and garlic granules and parsley. Then spread on a cookie sheet and toasted in a 300 degree oven for 45 minutes. Turn them every 15 minutes so they brown evenly and don't burn. Then they can be stored in Ziploc bags and frozen for future salads. You may never buy croutons again.
