Apple Chips

With apples still hanging on the tree I decided I would break out the dehydrator and make some apple chips. These are great healthy snacks and keep well.

I start out with ripe apples fresh off the tree. I wash them in warm water and a couple drops of Dawn Dishwashing liquid and a clean wrag. Then I dry them. They are ready to slice, peeling and all.

I use my WalMart Brand mandolin slicer and the thinnest blade setting I have. I slice the apples on all 4 sides with the peeling on and spray the apple slices with lemon juice in a spray bottle.

Then the apple slices are put on the dehydrator tray and sprinkled with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar and dehydrated until crisp.

Once they are done to just crisp they are cooled slightly and put in plastic bags. And the kids have fresh apple chips.

  1. How wonderful! What sort of dehydrator do you have? I've thought of getting one for doing stuff like that, and jerky, too. I've always used an oven for the last 20+ years for jerky. But never gotten a dehydrator.

Do you dry other stuff too? :)

Hope you have a great weekend!

  2. These look so good..Another way to use these is to place some together with a string and hang on the Christmas tree. Orange slices are also good done this way and it makes the house smell soooo good. Thanks again for all of your ways to can and keep things...Love it...Vera
