There will be something new and exciting in our garden this year. An elderly cousin of O Wise One has given him seeds from his family for popcorn that has been grown in that family for over 100 years. The variety name has been long lost through the years but this small popcorn is a link to his grandmother, Edna Lentz, who passed away many years ago. She lived with O Wise One and his parents when he was a child and after school his job was to entertain grandma, then bedridden, while his parents did chores and such. Grandma's been gone for more than 40 years but he was just deliriously happy to get this seed. We have belonged to Seed Savers Exchange and were always so impressed with seeds that were passed through a family for generations. How many people can say that they are planting the same seed that their Great Grandparent's planted. Well we now also have our own legacy seed here at the Holler. And maybe if the lord is willing and the creeks don’t rise we’ll be eating Lentz popcorn next year.
Blessings from the Holler
