Identity Crisis

Mama hen did good. She hatched 5 turkey eggs and mother and babies are in a tractor and doing well. Baby O is concerned that the little turkeys will have an identity crisis someday. To me nothing is more heartwarming than an old mother hen with chicks and this Buff Orphington hen is no exception. They tend to raise whatever we put under them. Sometimes turkeys, guineas and even occasionally a chicken egg or two.

  1. It works. We discovered we would never have an guineas survive if we left them with a mother so we always used hens to hatch those eggs.

    1. Isn't that the truth! Guineas are terrible mothers : )

    1. They are mean enough to protect them but are kind of flighty. They walk through the grass and just leave them scattered everywhere. Dingbats : )
