Watermelon Finally

Hank and his daddy finally got to pick a watermelon. Weight 60 pounds.

Boy that rabbit poop is some potent stuff!

The watermelon weighed more than the grandchild : )

  3. That is one heck of a watermelon.. Looks like one of the old time varieties we had when I was a kid.. All you needed for a big family get together was one big melon!

  4. WOW! Great lookin' melon and great lookin guys! I'll try some watermelons next summer. judging by the size of my pumpkins and my success with cantaloupes, I may have luck with these too. best not to dwell on tomatoes and move forward. we visited some local veggie farms to find out that here in the NE they have to raise tomatoes under hoops with fans and frequent sprayings of copper to fend off the Walmart blight which is now a part of our gardening reality. We have a large hoop structure, it's my husband's shop from his farm repair business, but it's just not worth the time and effort to convert it for growing, at least not at this point. moving forward, always, right?

    1. I've been reading up on your Walmart blight. Gosh I wish I had an answer for you on how to sterilize your soil to grow tomatoes but I think it is going to take someone smarter than me. I have not bought a plant from the stores in so long I guess I have somewhat lost touch. Such a shame that this has hurt so many gardeners. Have you contacted your local extension service and asked them what they recommend.
