My new computer is up and running!!! Went a little different route than normal. My last two computers I have bought new and both been Dell computers. This time I wanted to try a HP since I have had such good luck with my HP printers. I wanted Windows 7 as an operating system since my children all had horrible things to say about Windows 8. So I went a little different route this time and bought a refurbished HP computer. It was refurbished by a licensed Microsoft refurbisher, comes with a 1 year guarantee and I bought an additional year. So I was able to buy a much larger computer than the last one for much less money. The computer looks brand new and has no issues at this point. Buying refurbished is good for the environment as I guess that is really a problem. I paid $1200.00 nine years ago for my last computer set up. I was able to purchase a refurbished computer 3 times larger (more memory and RAM) than my last one, a new mouse and key board for under $300.00. For blogging, dealing with photos, emailing and online shopping this is all I should need. I was really pleasantly surprised at the options out there on refurbished computers!
So now that I am back online I thought I would share some of the canning pictures that I have just got to download. Lots of cucumbers!
Hamburger chips...
Fermented Refrigerator Pickles
Dill Relish
Dill Hamburger Chips
And with the cabbage getting ready
And the onions and carrots
It's freezer slaw time.
And with lots of zucchini it is also time to freeze zucchini bread.
Won't that slaw and bread taste good when the snow starts flying and the temperatures dropping?
You can search and find all these recipes already on the blog. Hope your pantry and freezer are filling up as fast as mine.

Nice price for the computer. Windows 8 is annoying. I have it on my laptop. I much rather have Windows 7 myself, but I bought the laptop brand new and if I wanted to downgrade the operating system, it was going to cost me more. Doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteI need to start making pickles here too. Our pickling cucumbers are not producing a lot this year, but we have a ton of slicing cucumbers. Can I pickle those in spears and slices? I've only ever used the pickling ones to make pickles.
Depends on the kind of slicer it is! I grow a variety that is dual purpose picked smaller they are good for pickling and as they get larger we use them as slicers.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the computer! YAY for you!
ReplyDeleteI have zucchini bread smells wafting upstairs as we speak and we had zucchini soup for supper yesterday. It was delicious. I can't believe I am going to say this but...I am afraid I am not going to HAVE enough zucchini this year (how is that POSSIBLE?) but my green zucchini plants have all but shriveled up and died with some sort of rust on it or something. I have plenty still frozen from last year, but I didn't get my fill of roasted and grilled fresh squash to suit me.
I LOVE that slicer. I was just doing pickles yesterday and my husband said- don't you have a slicer? He was talking about the one on the cheese grater which doesn't work worth beans. I am going to keep my eyes peeled for that contraption because that makes BEAUTIFUL slices!
That slicer is just a cheap Walmart mandolin slicer but it has been a good one.
DeleteI can't find your dill pickle recipe. Would you please steer me in the right direction? The pickles I have made so far don't have much flavor - just a strong vinegar flavor.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Fern
Do you mean the hamburger dills?
DeleteFern I realized that the dill chips were not on the blog so I quickly posted the recipe! Everything else is posted : ) Thanks for pointing that out !
DeleteI like the computer plan! Mine's still clicking along....but you never know!
ReplyDeleteNext year I'm going to space out my planting of zucchini. I've got to grate some up today as they got away from. I don't know if I read this here or somewhere else, but I'll be baking zucchini bread, slicing it and freezing it individually. Its just me and husband (diabetic) and while a treat is nice, a loaf is too much. Grabbing a slice or two of of the freezer would be perfect.
I bought some of those little individual bread pans. Just a little larger than a cupcake they are a perfect snack for the 3 of us for the day.
DeleteI got new computer this year and after 3 days sent it back....hate hate hate Windows 8. So got Windows 7 again and now I'm a happy camper! Not into touch screens. We have a desktop so they just sent out new tower.
ReplyDeleteI make canned coleslaw....did 7 qts. and 18 pints this week. The leftovers I stuck in freezer to see if I liked it that way but with a steer and a pig in our freezer not much room for anything else...and it is the biggest chest freezer you can buy.
Our zucchini/squash has been a fizzle this year...if we didn't get out and hand pollinate we got nothing. And we are beekeepers! Now that we've had over 10" rain in past week our garden is probably ready for disaster area designation! Getting an onion for supper is a venture. Tomatoes turning to mush.
Am happy for your "new" computer purchase! You are so wise!! I'm glad 'cause I love all your share on your blog! You and your family are so inspiring!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to find the recipe for the freezer slaw!! I'm looking, so maybe I will come across it.... Thanks for taking the time to share all you do!! Amazing!
You can find the recipe here

Most times when looking for a recipe there is a search engine over in the right margin on the top. Put in your recipe name and it should come up. I try to remember to post all canning recipes on the canning page which can be found in the tabs at the top.
Thanks for visiting
