Lord Give Me Patience!

Want it to rain?

Just fill the clothesline up with clean clothes, mop the floor, wash the car and the dog and water the garden with the hose. That just about seals the deal.......

Want it to Frost?

Just let every fruit tree on the place blossom out..... that will just about seal not having fruit for the year.

Want it to snow?

Just have eight trays of vegetables ready to go in the garden......

And 100 dormant strawberry plants in the bottom drawer of your refrigerator.........

And 20 pounds of seed potatoes that normally are in the garden two weeks ago.......

Not to mention those onion bulbs waiting for their turn to be planted in the garden.......

Sometimes I think gardening is just asking mother nature to play with your mind.

  1. I couldn't wait. I planted collards, mustards, tater eyes, squash, broccoli and brussels. Nothing up, yet. The squash were barely seedlings, 3 of 4 didn't make it. Still have one hanging tough. If it can make it through this week, it might have a chance. Have more in the house waiting.

  2. Farmer Joe asked me two weeks ago when the weather was so beautiful if we should roll the dice and go ahead and plant the garden. I am extremely glad that I talked him out of doing everything except potatoes and I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will be ok.

  3. We're still buried in snow up here in WI and are all wondering if there ever will be such a thing as green grass again:)) We had 36 degrees over the weekend and the kids broke out the shorts!

  4. I'm on hold now too. 20 trays is all the heated portion of my greenhouse can handle and my indoor shelves are all full too. I'm hoping this won't be our third spring that never was. Too cold, too hot then cold, and now too cold again? At least we're getting a bit of moisture with the cold.

  5. That's exactly what I was thinking.

  7. We got a few things planted last week: potatoes, onions, peas, spinach, lettuce, radishes, kale, and turnips. I hope they don't rot cause now they are under a few inches of snow. I have 2 trays of hardy plants ready to go in the garden, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. I guess it is a waiting game. Supposed to be in the 60s by the end of the week. Should take care of the snow. Just give me more hand quilting time. (grin)

  9. Hahahaha, so true!!! I started some of my seed plants in containers in front of the huge windows. And today they are poking their heads out of the dirt to look at 4" of snow falling. But, 'tis the spring of Alaska ;-)

  10. I planted 48 cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower about ten days ago. I covered them with gallon jugs with the bottom cut off and then I covered all that with a fabric tunnel cover. I had to pull the cover off when the 8 inch snow came because it would get all torn up. Now I am afraid I will loose them due to overnight temps in the 20's. Also planted 20 LBS of potatoes They should be okay till the snow thaws.

  11. So true! I have lost track of how many times I had to run out to the clothesline to get the clothes off. Then there are the years of hoping that our potatoes don't rot in the garden because of too much rain. Let's hope that this weather will turn around real soon!
