That freezer is slowly filling. Won't these little steaks be great in the crock pot or skillet. I am so glad my family likes venison because you can't beat the price and the fact that it is so much better for you than store bought beef is just an extra.
Frozen up and bagged with our FoodSaver and ready to go.
Deer roasts, trimmed, frozen and bagged ready for the freezer. We love our deer roasts cooked just like a traditional beef pot roast.
Stew Meat for the crock pot stews during winter! Homegrown potatoes, Dehydrated carrots and onions and you have a stew.
Ground venison bagged and ready for the freezer : )
We ended up getting 30 pounds of pure meat frozen from the last small doe. O Wise One is steadily on the lookout for another doe or too to add to it. Last year we froze 3 small does. He does not shoot bucks at all preferring those young and tender does for the table.
Anyone else out there had any luck at the hunt?

thats a wonderful supply for the winter, my grandson had his buck and my son inlaw got his does so their freezer is filling, they made some sausage this year as well, but there really is so many recipes adaptable for venison the list goes on and on doesn't it!
ReplyDeleteWe like to make sausage with ours also. It makes great Italian sausage! Anything you can do with beef you can pretty well do with venison : )
DeleteHubby did't get anything during bow but shot gun opens this week so i am expecting jerky real soon!:) happy hunting!
ReplyDeleteThe guys are grilling deer steaks tonight at "deer" camp. I don't know the exact recipe but it's steaks that you marinate all day in 3 cups of soy sauce and 2 c brown sugar. Then drain, wrap each steak in a piece of bacon adn grill. The guys just love them.
ReplyDeleteVension is like free meat!!
yum! My husband likes to wrap his venison loin strips around cream cheese and then wrap in bacon and put on the grill. It is really good too : )
DeleteThat meat looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteIn California we cannot shoot the does anymore. Years ago we had doe season every 4 years. Now they are everywhere, including the front end of many vehicles. It's sad that we have removed a balancing factor from the deer population and we are being overrun. The bucks are smart and bagging one gets harder every year. Food for the deer is getting leaner and they are getting more desperate. Finding them on your front deck is not unusual and they are getting aggressive. The Environmentalists have created a deer utopia in their minds, with little regard for the actual consequences. The predator population is decreasing and dead fawns lie strewn along the roadways along with their mothers. Vehicle damage, personal injuries, and even deaths have been on the rise and we are at the mercy of bureaucrats in the big cities. Sorry to rant...I just wish people could see the truth. "Bambi" is an emotional trigger, not the hard truth. Congratulations on your larder filling up!
ReplyDeleteIf they did not allow hunting here the deer would wipe out the corn and soy bean crops. Not to mention the thousands of people that would die in traffic accidents with deer. Even with hunting our traffic accidents involving deer are really high.
DeleteGot a good haul there that's for sure ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteNo luck yet but cooking deer meat from last year.
ReplyDeleteIt's all good!
