Hickery Holler Labor Day Update

Those regular readers to Hickery Holler Farm know that we have been in the grips of a drought here on the farm and in a great deal of Missouri. The powers that be had put us under "Exceptional Drought" conditions. Although too late for the growing season we are proud to report that Hurricane Isaac came roaring into the Gulf of Mexico, he tore through Louisiana about New Orleans and then paid us a visit. No  winds to speak of and absolutely no damage that I am aware of, just a steady rain for about 2 days. And the final tally is unknown since our rain gauge stops at 6 inches. Local weather channels place it at between 6 and 7 inches. Now since we were down atleast 10 inches of moisture this does not end the drought conditions but it surely does help. We are praying for cooler temperatures from here on out until winter sets in. We pray for those in Louisiana experiencing flood conditions and power outages including my own family down there. Again the Lord had provided and we are ever thankful. Guess we will have to start mowing grass again.

I am also happy to report that I am finally getting over my flu. It has been a really bad bug though, going into my inner ear and setting up an infection that still leaves me weak and dizzy at times. Baby O was the original carrier of this flu, picking it up while babysitting for a local family. She was over it in 24 hours. The healing power of youth is wonderful. Sadly I was down for over a week and still continue to fight the remains of this bug. Yesterday  O Wise One started showing symptoms. So I guess it has made the rounds now of the whole house. On the bright side about the only thing I could do besides sleeping was quilt so I did get a little quilting done.

Thank you to everyone that posted and emailed concerns, offered up prayers and well wishes. They were greatly appreciated.

On a happier note I was unable to post for 5 days to this blog. It seems with the latest Norton antivirus update that suddenly Google Chrome and Blogger had an issue with coding. Google and Blogger were able to repair the problem but it was not a swift process. I am happy to be back up and running blog wise and missed you all. It did give me time to rest and recuperate though so in the end I guess it was really good timing.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Labor Day.

Blessings from The Holler

  2. I check your site daily (sometime more than once a day!) and am so happy that you are back online...more importantly that you are feeling better. We had Isaac here in Northern Central Mississippi. It was windy and some rain and cooler temps, but after a few days it went back to being hot and humid again. We also have had a drought here but the rain was a nice reprieve! Hope O Wise One doesn't get it fully like you did :( You are one of my inspirations! Thanks for all your posts! After reading your posts, I have started a blog after we moved to the country :) maggietravers.blogspot.com
