Cantaloupe

We have quite the melon patch this year. We have watered them throughout the drought atleast once a week.

And we amended each planting hill with none other than rabbit poop.  Very little smell, doesn't burn or require composting and a great little boost of nitrogen for growing seedlings. And no weed seeds! We are finding now that we have goats that goat poop is great also.

  2. Oh I am quite jealous. Although I planted several melon plants this year, all I have is flowers...which means there will be no melons because our frost will likely come in a month or so.

  4. Your melons look great,we had some volunteer cantaloupe that came up in the compost pile that were good. I really hope you dont have the weeds with goat poop. We have tons of weeds from ours especially tamatillos or at least thats what they look like. I have never tried them just pull them up & discard in burn pile as they will root anywhere.

    1. I'm sorry I had to laugh. Where on earth did you goat get into tomatillos at? It reminded me of a story about a guy I knew that was going to use human sewage sludge as a fertilizer on his lawn. He ended up with thousands of tomatoes growing on his lawn. Tomato seeds are one of those things that the human body can not digest. Guess goats can't digest tomatillo. Thanks for your comment an I will keep an eye out for those tomatillo!
