A Much Needed Rest

Last week was spent doing so many outside chores that we were exhausted. With aching muscles and weary bodies we knew it had to be done though. Then this weekend came the rain. All day Sunday was a slow and gentle rain. Probably about an inch and a half all together. Just what the soil needed. Just enough to get our seeds up from last week. More spinach and peas. Enough to a water the garden well and bathe the flowers in raindrops.  Everything smelled like roses in the rain.

Just a slow and gentle rain. Enough rain to give the gardeners a chance to catch up on housework and cooking. Enough to rest sore muscles and joints. This morning and the rest of the week is supposed to be in the eighties so we will be back to outside work. Cleaning, weeding, mowing and mulching.  Adding mulch to the garden to fight the new crop of little weeds that the rain will bring on. Planting corn and warm season crops as soon as the soil dries out.  Setting a new crop of turkey eggs, and maybe picking strawberries.

Rainy days are indeed a gift from God.

  3. We've been getting lots of it here--but not too much. My gardens are loving it! So am I: I've been way too busy to take the time out to water!
