Autumn in The Holler

Riding around in that old red pickup truck with O Wise One with the windows rolled down and Willie Nelson on the radio. Yes I am a Willie Nelson fan. The views are breathtaking. The ditches full of wildflowers. Everything is so dry and dusty though because we are badly in need of rain. The farmers are loving the dry weather for harvest though.

It is wonderful to again feel cool breezes through old screen doors and sleeping with the windows open.

Autumn here brings hot biscuits on a cold morning to go with farm fresh fried eggs. Flannel shirts, blue jeans and heavy socks.

Pumpkin Pie, and sweet potato pie and bread hot out of the oven

Fried Green tomatoes to use up all those left on the vine

Fresh crisp apples ripe off the tree

Pumpkins

Fields awaiting harvest

Mums

And let's not forget those beautiful Fall colors

Happy Fall Ya'll

Blessings from The Holler

  2. Kind of apples?

We use to have an Arkansas Black at our other place. Bountiful harvest every year...keeping apples. They would keep in the crisper over six months.

These were the kind you used to wrap and put under the bed until Christmas. We told that story to Hubby's sister and shipped a mess to her house.

Forgot to tell her that was the way they were stored with bedrooms with no heat! She opened her apples at Christmas and they were ruined of course.

We had some stored correctly and were able to ship a few and she had her apples for Christmas after all.

    Pumpkin pie is my favorite.

  5. You will appreciate this story CQ. I went to school in Texas and my mother came down to visit. At the time Willie owned the Opera House and we went to a show there. Half way through he came on stage, accepted a Lone Star beer from and audience member and played Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain, my mother's favorite song. She was THRILLED! As you might guess she was a Willie fan too. (This was 1980)
