A Day of Work

We finally got a day of sunshine. I now know how Noah must have felt seeing that dove return with the olive branch. Geez! Enough already...with most of the streams and creeks out of their banks and the roads a quagmire of mud it just continues to rain. The garden is impossible to get into and the yard is getting to the point that we may have to bail it once it dries up enough to mow. More for the compost I guess.

Tuesday we did have one day of sunshine so I got to do my laundry and hang it out. Open the windows for a little fresh air. And mop the floors where the puppies have been going in and out to do their business. We dry off their paws but they still leave tracks sometimes. Since it was a housecleaning day I put on some music and cooked while I worked.

Louisiana Red Beans simmering on the stove.

And smothered zucchini with onions and a little bacon. Some buttermilk cornbread.
And for dessert a blackberry cobbler. See recipe here

For those of you who have not noticed I have started posting recipes on a separate food blog called Grits, Greens and Gravy. You can access this blog on the left hand side of this blog.

I am writing this on Wednesday and it is again raining.

  1. Wed? Thurs? I am having a Thurs like you just posted about with not hardly a cloud in the sky! Thank You Lord!! Laundry hanging on the line, many many loads, beds changed, windows open, the back 40 mowed and baled, many other little oddities finished, had a nice lunch by myself, just me and the butterflies and birds, out on the veranda (I like to call it that makes me feel special), pulled gobs of weeds in the very wet garden, now sipping tea and planning a power nap before supper and back to loving on my baby goats and my grandkids and pulling more weeds! See I think we are sisters!! Oh and the wind is not blowing for once!

  3. Your day was like mine today. Our first day of sun in a while so I stewed a chicken while I worked in the garden. Planted a short row of Asian pole beans and a square of Blue Jade corn. Brought everything out from the greenhouse to finish hardening off, too.

    Those beans look mighty good!

  5. I love your blog and I have found grits, greens and gravy.I can't wait to check them both to see what is new at the holler..
Yesterday was a bad day in my area also..(Texas). I had been busy doing housework and decided to take my cell phone in to get fixed...I had it a button and could not figure out how to fix....well, I did not check the weather (we have been water logged for sometime) and unbeknown to me I was right in the middle of a tornado heading our way....It did not take me long to get home either...I could see it come down and go back up...Not what I had in mind when I left for town....well me and the chicks survived...they went to the coop like they knew what was going on also..
Keep us posted on things at the holler...vera
