My back is old and achy. I feel all these years of weeding and planting. Arthritis has set in. A couple years back I saw a trick somewhere that works great for me. It helps so much with planting. O Wise One cut off a piece of scrap PVC pipe the length of a little above my waist to the soil. I can simply go down the row and drop my seeds in the PVC pipe without ever bending over. Genius! Then we realized we needed something to hold the seeds so we added a tuna can. just drilled a little hole and wired it to the PVC pipe. Then we added a leg on the bottom in front. The front leg makes the hole in the soft soil. It has a cap on it so it is solid. We got the idea from this image on Pinterest.
So clever. Many Thanks
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I am definitely going to make one for myself. I'm now in a back brace but refuse to give up gardening. I can even use one of these for raised gardens.
ReplyDeleteYep! I use this in my raised beds and my in ground beds. Huge help with an old sore back. Makes planting seeds so much less painful.
DeleteAwesome planting pole! How cool is that!
ReplyDeleteWanted to share with you that I linked back to your blog with my own recent blog post. You have really inspired me so much lately and I've found so much joy in the things I've been doing. I MUST tell others what a wealth of knowledge you are and what a wonderful blog you have here. I never like to link back without telling someone so wanted to share that.
THANKS AGAIN for the wonderful posts and inspiration.
*I have had some problems with the new blogger interface. It kept wiping out half of my post when publishing and I had to switch back to the old interface. (In case you have issues too.)

Thanks for the heads up! I haven't ran into any problems with the new interface yet but that doesn't mean they have worked out the bugs yet.
DeleteI love old fashioned ingenuity. Instead of running to Walmart or ordering a contraption, we/you/us put on our creative Thinking Caps and come up with something that works--usually for free. I just love it. Necessity is the mother of invention. And I ain't talkin' about the 1960's Rock group.
ReplyDeleteAmen sista you are singing my tune. I LOVE smart and cheap! What a combo.
DeleteI must have planted a thousand Jade green beans, purple hull peas, horticulture bean, Kentucky Wonder, and pea seeds this year. My Gardener Guy says at five foot, I'm much closer to the ground than he is!! This looks like a back saving device to me! Must show it to Gardener Guy. Thanks for the heads up. Now, back to shelling horticultural beans and watching the pressure gage for the green beans. Love your tips and recipes.
ReplyDeleteMy 3 go to's. Jade beans, purple hulls and horticulture beans. Someone has been listening to my rantings!! Lol
DeleteI read your recommendation for Jade beans years ago when you lived in MO, not far from my daighter. Have planted them ever since. BEST green bean ever!!!
DeleteWhat a great idea! It's a brilliant way to plant without all the bending down. Love it!
ReplyDeleteDarlene
Works like a charm. No moving parts. CHEAP!!!
DeleteI love this idea! I'm going to have my husband do this for me, so I'll enjoy planting more. :)
ReplyDeleteBest thing I have ever done for my back!
DeleteLove this idea...will be heading to the store to pick up PVC pipe but I think I might add a funnel on the top as hubby has shaky hands and this might be a great thing for him.......
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
DeleteThis is such a good idea! I’m going to show my dad. He is 6’6” with arthritis and it’s a long way to bend for him.
