Garlic Scapes

With the weather warming up the garlic has put up scapes or flowers. I want my plants to concentrate their effort on producing bulbs therefore I cut them all off. Many people pickle their scapes but I simply cut mine up and freeze to use them as garlic seasoning.

A very time consuming and garlicky job but I use lots of garlic.

Just tiny little pieces of the stem. I usually saute them with my onions. I have seen people also add them to olive oil to make flavored oils. I put mine in small vacuum sealed bags in the freezer.

Nothing taken for granted and nothing goes to waste. Blessings abound.

  1. I love garlic scapes! I freeze some like you do and some I make into pesto and freeze. Sooo good. You can never have too much garlic -- in any form.

  3. I just picked my scapes today! Hoping to grow more garlic next year, now that I know how easy it is. I only planted a few last year.
