She's Growing Up

Woke up this Saturday morning to snow showers here. Somewhat warmer temperatures are predicted for next week and we are hoping to maybe lose some of this snow cover as temperatures climb.

O Wise One is fighting a sty on his eye. He was out side cleaning some moldy straw out and throwing it on the compost when it blew back in his eye. Went to the doctor and got some antibiotic drops but they have not helped. We have now gone to hot compresses with a green tea bag and washing the eye regularly with baby shampoo and warm water..now it is improving. He continues to run his trap line between snow storms.

The last week has went by in a blur. Oh how busy we have been! The puppies are doing great on the whole housebreaking thing and Baby O now has them doing leash work and they are already learning obedience commands. She is really great about working with them everyday.

Baby O has decided that it is time to move out of the room she has been in since she was 2. This room is right next door to our room  so that we could hear her in the night. At 17 she is moving up stairs into a big peoples room. It has indeed been nostalgic for me as we have sorted and packed up her belongings and moved out of the pink and frilly room of a little girl and into the room of an adult. Many times I have just sat and wondered where has the time gone?

I think I will repaint this room a very pale sage or some such neutral color and make new curtains and quilt for it. It shall become a guest room in future.  Used more than anything when kids and grandkids visit.

Many of her dolls and children's things will be packed away to await children of her own to pass them to. It was mostly moving clothing and books. LOTS of books, music and musical instruments.  I have to say that we are fortunate that she has her mother's OCD and her room stays pretty clean.

I now have a stack of clothing to recycle into rugs, cleaning rags and quilts.

And a collection of formals and prom dresses to put on ebay. She's keeping a few for church and special occasions.

This will now become Baby O's new room. She already has requested her father to build her book shelves and a computer desk for the new room. I am sure next will be curtains and a new quilt...

As most of you that are long time readers know, Baby O attends school from home. She buys her classes online from the State University. This enables her to have a wide selection of gifted, advanced placement, dual credit and college level classes that would not have normally been available to her and at a much younger age. As she gets back into the school swing and begins the second semester she has also worked on purchasing her own new classes and the semester chore of ordering textbooks. We purchase used textbooks when possible and sell the textbooks from previous semesters used  to help pay for the new ones.  We make her do all this for herself knowing that when she gets to college she will need to know how.

I had to laugh at her status on Facebook day before yesterday........
"Just bought a USED textbook for $85.. seriously missing high school right this second, where textbooks were free and came with a complimentary penis doodled into the front cover."

I just had to laugh! She has indeed grown up.

See ya Monday to finish up those gardening segments.

  1. Your daughters Face Bbook post is hilarious. Our kids grow up to fast, and they really start to realize life isn't cheap when money comes out of their own pocket.

Yay for Baby O!!!! Enjoy college sweetie :-)

  2. What a smart funny young lady you have raised! as far as painting her old room, pale sage sounds nice, should go with lots of fabric choices. I once painted our master bedroom a very pale gray (just a tint of gray I believe it was). I wasn't sure about it until it was on the walls and then it was perfect, calm to look at and went with every single fabric I put in there. Now we have log walls, nothing to consider which is good as I get old and find that just keeping up with seasonal decorating is enough (along with farm chores). stay warm my farm friends.

    1. I adore log walls! I think I am going to paint the walls a pale pale sage green that really is almost white. Very neutral and will go with so much of what i have and the antiques and quilts.

      Thanks for visiting

  7. Rub the sty with white gold if you have it. We use my moms ring when we get one
and were all married and out of the house, but we still go to her when we get a sty.

  8. How amusing! I remember those days.

Love the tied quilt! My great grandmama used to have them on every bed in her house.
