Normally I write on this blog about full pantries, full gardens and full cupboards. Tonight I will not but instead write of full hearts. Hearts full of love for your fellow man. Hearts willing to pray for the well being of a child not your own. Hearts pouring out in prayer, understanding and brotherhood in a time of crisis.
O Wise One and I are happy to report that our Baby O is home from the hospital but still hooked to a portable heart monitor. This is just the beginning of a process to determine what exactly has caused her heart to beat at almost twice the rate that it should. She complained recently of indigestion, chest pain and fatigue. O Wise One has heart rhythm issues so luckily we own not only a blood pressure cuff but a blood oxygen level and heart rate meter. ( You know those little clampy things that clip on the end of your finger. ) O Wise One's mother and both brothers died of heart issues so needless to say there is a family history. We knew when she had an accelerated heart rate that it was nothing to play with. After 24 hours straight of testing she has been sent home with a monitor. Next comes the stress tests and results from all the tests. She returns to the hospital tomorrow for an appointment and then more appointments next week. At this point they have not found a reason for the racing heart beat. They are testing for anxiety disorders and gastro intestinal problems.
For those of you home schooling mothers out there the nurse said that she had never seen a teenager recite the entire Constitution Of The United States while being stuck for an IV. All eleven times...bad veins.
When everyone got home and I got around to checking the Hickery Holler Blog we were absolutely bowled over at the outcry of love and compassion from you our readers. With 80 comments on the blog from all over the country and overseas and almost 200 personal email messages we are speechless.
For once in this old woman's life I am speechless. You have indeed reduced me to tears.
Thank you so much for your prayers, love, support and encouraging words in our time of need. I cannot tell you all how important you are to us and thank you for all your support.
Blessings from The Holler

ReplyDeleteHugs, prayers and thanks to God from Oregon. I thought about Baby O when I was making your zucchini bread just now and it caused me pause to stop and pray again for her and the medical team that will try to find answers for all of you.

ReplyDeleteSo glad she is outta there- and for her birthday! I hope the doctors find what it is that is causing these problems, but for now,I am thankful that they have found nothing. Nothing is better than something, when that something is bad.
ReplyDeletePraying! And Happy birthday to her!
Such blessings, she is home and though there may be long roads and many tests ahead, she is home and is being monitored and checked. Never doubt that in addition to the many prayers for Baby O and the rest of the family, there were also many prayers for the Dr.'s and nurses caring for her. Will continue to send payers your way!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that she is home. I hope everything is eventually ok and they figure out what is going on. Your family will continue to be in my prayers.

ReplyDeleteSo glad she is home and things are looking up. I agree with Val whole heartedly in that you are such a blessing to so many with your encouragement and teachings. Its just as it should be that you receive blessings and prayers from all of those that appreciate all that you do to help us. The Lord is faithful and his mercies endure forever. He is the great physician and I pray that he wraps his arms around you all and that you feel the love and healing that he so wondefully pours out for us.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the answers your looking for in Baby O's health scare and that she would be healed.
God Bless you all!
Prayers will continue to come your way.
ReplyDeleteWe know what it is like to have a precious daughter suddenly have a chronic health issue at a young age. Children are such blessings and it is frightening when suddenly their health becomes precarious.
Many Blessings to you. Our thoughts and prayers will remain with you.
Sigh of relief! Thanks so much for taking time to update, sending wishes for a diagnosis so you can move on in the healing process.
ReplyDeleteHappy she is home. Will continue to pray that test results come back with good news.
ReplyDeleteSo happy she is home. We will continue to pray that answers will be forthcoming and the problem resolved.
ReplyDeletePrayers for Baby O.......love and hugs.....
ReplyDeleteSo glad shes home! Hopefully the cause will be determined and treated!
ReplyDeleteRejoicing along with you & wishing your sweet girl the very happiest of birthdays....what a celebration it will be!!!
ReplyDeleteWe continue to lift y'all up as you begin the journey that our family knows can sometimes be frustrating & anxiety filled while you search for answers. We've personally come to accept that sometimes knowing what the problem ISN'T has to be as good of an 'answer' when we don't know exactly what the problem IS...if that makes any sense. All the best.

I am so happy Baby O is home.
ReplyDeleteI will continue prayers.
grrrr. anxiety, stress, don't bet on that. interesting that it still is todded out as an option in this day and age. That is what my docs told me 25 yrs ago, didn't make sense to me but what did I know. Then I went into labor with baby #4, heart rate of 220, needed a cardiologist in the delivery room while I was so embarrassed thinking he will KNOW I am a nut case, certifiable. Well, after internal electrical studies (called EPS) turns out it is WPW, Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, not all that uncommon and NOT from stress. 5 yrs later and I was now a cardiac RN and funny I never heard docs saying that males with fast heart rates were victims of anxiety! Any-who, I had the internal studies and treatment (they burn a tiny section in my heart's electrical pathways tossing up a roadblock on that fast lane, and it was cured. What was novel 25 yrs ago is common treatment today. Oh, my problem did not show up on a home monitor until a couple years after the labor issue, then when it did I got a call telling me to get to the hospital FAST, the monitor showing episodes of heart rate up to 400, very serious. I shrugged, having a tired cranky toddler clutching my leg, still in scrubs fromn work, but I did get on over there after serving dinner to my family and had it treated. So glad that Baby O is home, now you will have to be strong and advocate for a diagnosis that is NOT anxiety. My daughter could have suffered very serious damage from my heart rate in delivery, thank goodness she is fine. Oh, my aunt had the same condition, she was treated about 10 yrs after me, in her late 60's and she is also now cured. So, just things to keep in mind when the dust settles and maybe the home monitor doesn't show anything. As we grows older, it becomes harder and harder for the body to handle this problem, makes very good sense to treat it while patients are young and otherwise healthy. A specialist called an Electrophysiologist is the particular cardiologist to handle the diagnosis and treatment and for sure it should be at a large, well respected medical facility. My docs were from Mass General, cutting edge for this diagnostic and treatment at that time, but they travelled to our local hospital once a month and so thats where I had my treatment, and cure. Prayers going out to yawl. I understand the stress, relief, etc and most of all the really nice feeling of sleeping once again in your own bed surrounded by loved ones.
ReplyDeleteStill praying...but so glad she's home. I'm hoping the nurse learned something! ; )
ReplyDeleteI have to say that as bloggers we are like a family. If someone has a problem, we pray for them. I am glad that Baby O is doing better. As a heart attack survivor and now I have an ICD, I made sure that I had the best doctors in the area. Always ask questions and feel comfortable with the answers. When I had my ICD implanted, my heart rate when to 190. When I was in my room recovering, it did it again. The dr that did my implant asked me if I had ever had this before and I had told him no. My heart attack was a year and a half before the implant. We still don't know what caused it, but my pacemaker has helped a lot. I am hoping and praying that Baby O will get encouraging news.
ReplyDeleteSo awesome when our God hears our pleas....and answers. Thanking HIM for answered prayers and continued prayers lifted for your daughter as well as your family.

I am so glad your daughter is home. I will continue to pray for her.
ReplyDeleteWhat joyful news! Baby O will remain in my prayers and I hope before long you'll get a good working diagnosis to get her back to her normal self. What a trooper to put up with the iv attempts and remain calm. Bad veins are NO fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Baby O is home where she can be cared for and loved by you. I'm among your many readers who is holding her in my healing thoughts.

I was shocked when I read of your daughter's problem because she is so young. I know this is a scary and worrisome time for your family. I have prayed for her and will continue to do so and hope all turns out well. I have a daughter who has chronic pain which doctor's have not been able to diagnose so I understand how worried you must be. I would appreciate your prayers for my daughter when you get things settled at your home. I don't have a blog but enjoy reading yours so much and am amazed at all you accomplish for your family. I do not have a garden but used to have a large vegetable garden and "put up" lots of food which my family enjoyed. Tell Baby O we are glad she is home and wish her a speedy recovery!!

Thank God she is home. We will all keep praying for her. Did they tell you whether they would do the Treadmill or the Thallium Stress Test. My husband looks at the Treadmill as an athletic event so he gets the Thallium instead.
