Seasonal Sales

With St. Patrick's Day last weekend grocery stores have cabbage for under 50 cents a head. I have been picking up cabbage and cutting up heads daily for my chickens, turkeys and rabbits. What a great green treat and for little money. Also on sale this time of year are carrots and mushrooms. I take the opportunity to dehydrate some mushrooms to replenish my pantry. These dehydrated mushrooms are great for throwing in gravies, stews and cream soups and this time of year they can be picked up for a real bargain if you keep a close eye. Simple to dehydrate and much easier than canning.

I also bought some cabbage and carrots and restocked my supply of freezer slaw. This should last until my own cabbage comes in in the garden.

I had a head of cabbage to go with that corned venison for St Patty's Day.

  2. I have a question about your mushrooms. I dehydrated a bunch of them last year, but when I rehydrate them they still stay thin and chewy. Do you have a post on dehydrating/rehydrating mushrooms? Thanks

    1. I rehydrate mine in boiling water and let them set for a good long time.
