My project this week in between baking for Halloween and finishing a quilt. Leaves on the garden. After all we don't want to waste all those beautiful leaves that make such rich dirt. Last week I cleaned out the goat pins and we have been continuously adding that to the garden. Along with leaves as they fall.
I have one more large round bale of straw that I want to cap the garden off with. But before that I have a stack of newspaper that I am going to put under it to decompose also. And the rabbit pins need cleaning out underneath again. So all of that is going on the garden one last time before winter. It should all be decomposed by spring into a nice rich seed bed for my spring garden.
The wheat that has sprouted from seeds in the straw we pull daily as a treat for the chickens and pigs. It pulls really easily!
There are a few onion volunteers that I have been pulling and using as green onions in the kitchen.
I think I will simply leave the volunteer bok choy to overwinter. I am curious to see if it will come back next spring with a heavy mulch on top to protect it. Maybe that is how I will plant it next year if it does : )

Sounds like the activities around my place too...I am still pulling edibles out of the gardens, and am soooo ready for winter. In spite of the weather, it was a good harvesting year, all in all...
