A Homemade Halloween

Here's a repost of past Halloweens with some great recipe links for those of you like me that bake treats ....CQ

I fondly remember the days of trick or treating when every house gave you apples, oranges, homemade popcorn balls, caramel apples and even homemade taffy. Back then you didn't even have to take your treats to be xrayed for razor blades or pins. There were haunted houses and apple bobbing, hayrides and bonfires. I continue to make homemade goodies for the kids. We don't get a lot of kids this far out in the country but we do get grandchildren and a few neighbor kids. They get so excited over homemade goodies.

Looking for something to pass out for trick or treating fresh from the farm. Well look no further....

How about bags of caramel corn straight from your kitchen?

How about some bags of crunchy apple chips sprinkled with sugar and brown Sugar!

Need a treat for that Sunday School class or school class room?

Anyone out there have a great Halloween treat recipe? Please feel free to share a link.

  1. Apple chips with brown sugar! I didn't think of this but I've got some to dehydrate now so it'll be on my agenda.

We used to have such great Halloweens. My friend's mom used to dress as a witch- very realistic. They had a big house with a central sunken living room off the main entry. She brought in a cauldron and dry ice, ladling out cider for the kids. The eerie smoke was spooky. There would be all sorts of homemade treats and the older kids had set up a "spook house" in the basement for the younger kids. It was made of cardboard boxes and sheets. You would put your fingers in gooey things (spaghetti, jellos, etc) and they would say you were feeling all sort of gory things. Such fun, such a better time!

  2. We don't celebrate Halloween but I love those treat ideas! Those would be great just for snacks here or to tuck into hubby's lunch bag. I already make the apple chips and caramel corn but I am going to try that pumpkin chocolate chip muffin recipe.

  3. I don't recall actually going to peoples' houses. I remember we'd get together at some family member house, do apple bobbing and pin the tail on the donkey, or some such; and then play in the yard or something.

I make taffy with my grandmother one time. For Christmas, I think. That is something I want to learn how to make again, some day.

I have bookmarked this page because I want to look at these recipes one day, too. :)

  4. Everything looks delicious! I am going to have to make popcorn balls this year, I haven't done that since I was a kid. Thanks for the wonderful pictures and recipes :)

  5. I am glad you are still able to do this. We are not even allowed to make homemade cupcakes for a school party...have to buy them! If they only knew how much better...and cleaner, home cooked treats are.
