New Freezer Bags

As most of you know that follow this blog we can most of our own food. Two things that we use  large quantities of are bags and jars. The great thing about jars is that they are reusable. Unfortunately  bags are not always reusable.

And we use them for everything. Vegetables are frozen in them...

Fruits are frozen in them such as rhubarb above

And strawberries.

And lets not forget those venison steaks and roasts. Fresh catfish from the ponds and that buckboard bacon and homemade jerky and sausage.

With two large freezers it can get expensive to purchase all those bags. This year we ordered a new bag off of Amazon and have been wonderfully pleased with them . The name of the bags are Weston Bags (above).  No fancy packaging or frills but so far a really great working bag.

We have a FoodSaver vacuum sealer model V840. This is our second FoodSaver machine. We started many years ago buying our bags at our local WalMart. The problem with that was not only were they more expensive but many times they were not in stock. If you ran out it would sometimes be weeks before they were restocked. So we began ordering enough for the season ahead of time on Amazon.

This year we decided to try these Weston bags and I have to tell you that we are extremely happy with them. They actually seem to work better than the FoodSaver brand. The Weston seem to seal better and we have had no bags to lose their seal unlike Foodsaver.

And on Amazon.com you can get 44 FoodSaver quart bags for $19.99 which is about 45 cents a bag before shipping. Right now you can get 100 Weston quart bags for about 29 cents a bag before shipping or $29.

Now our bags actually came from the company above in California. And we were pleased to see that they also carry not only vacuum bags but also oxygen absorbers which we also use and also at a very competitive price.

So for those of you that use a lot of vacuum bags you may want to give this bag a try.

And just to make it perfectly clear I am not getting paid anything for this post in any way! Just a satisfied customer trying to share a bargain.

Anyone out there found good vacuum bags any cheaper?
