Daily Farm Journal

Friday July 13th, 2102

We got up this morning to the normal chores and hot weather. Those of you that live on a farm know what I mean. Up at 5:30... Let the chickens out and feed and fresh water. Let the turkeys out feed and fresh water. Same with the pigs and goats. Water on the garden if it needs it etc, etc, etc..........All of a sudden the skies began to cloud up and we just went about our business. Weather man wasn't calling for rain this entire week when we watched it last night. Then it started to thunder and then blessings of all blessings ... it rained. Now I am not talking one of those little sprinkles where it takes all day to get 1/4 inch. No I am talking gutter overflowing, blowing, pouring rain. A veritable storm!!!

I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. So instead I just sent a little thank you heavenward and called it a day.

I think we are about 12 inches below our normal rainfall so I don't know if this shower will matter that much but my gracious it sure did feel good. It had rained all around us and we were starting to feel like the little red headed stepchild waking up on Christmas morning without any gifts and watching everyone else open theirs ! It seemed as if the whole farm just collectively breathed a sigh of relief.

Before the rain we did manage to get the tomatoes, squash and okra picked. So the rest of the day I worked on getting my accumulated picks for the last day or two worked up, washed, sliced and blanched for the freezer.

Missed my morning post but it will be a busy weekend getting Baby O ready for the fair on Monday. So if you don't hear much from me I'll be back on Monday morning to catch up : )

  1. So glad you got a good drenching rain. We got one here last Sunday. It poured for while... enough to put over 2 inches of rain water in the goats feed tubs. It felt SO good. Yes, I was out there in it getting soaked! And, there's a little green growing out on the hill sides from that cool drink of water.
