With the heat index in the triple digits for a second week in a row the warm weather crops are finally taking off. The okra above is being picked every two days now and going in the freezer. I think I am going to bread some next week and freeze it for fried okra.
These are those bush sweet potatoes I was trying this year. I think their definition of bush and mine differ slightly. Lots of vines and I hope lots of sweet potatoes.
Below are my Amish Pie Squash vines. Again this is something new I am trying this year. I hope they will have time to mature before frost. Lots of little ones in those huge vines.
I love the huge blossoms.
The zukes are finally coming in.
Also the crookneck squash.
With all the cool weather crops canned or frozen. My first corn crop of the season of both green beans and corn in the jar and the warm weather crops are coming in at a perfect time. We will start planting the fall turnips this weekend.
Still not many cucumbers to speak of but some new vines are coming on so we are still hoping for some late ones.
Cantaloupe and watermelon are ripening slowly. The Harvest has not been huge but we will not starve either. There is always another year in the garden. We continue to give thanks and wonder what new the next gardening season will bring : )

How do you bread your okra? I expected the gooey nature of sliced okra to keep the breading on for frying, but my breading always seems to come off in the fryer.
