Early Spring Update

The Holler last week continued to be under a veil of grey clouds and it looks as if the mud is here to stay. Thurs and Friday the temperatures slowly climbed and we were up in the 50's during the day dropping to 40's at night. Not too bad for mid March. Normally I plant peas around St. Patrick's Day but much too wet to play in the dirt at all. Hard to plant in water. The work continues despite the weather.

Below are ruts compliments of the school bus. Too wet to grade so will just have to live with it for now.

Daffodils continue to pop up all over the yard.

Peonies are breaking ground

O Wise One has put new plastic on the cold frame and hopes to move onion, cabbage and broccoli to their new home awaiting time to go in the garden. Hoping weather will stabilize a little more before.  

Compost Pile has went down probably three feet since Fall. Lots of good dirt for spring.

Chicks have been moved to 2 brooders on back porch but still under lights. 

Both brooders sit right outside our bedroom window so we can hear them. We are trying to protect them from varmints. The varmints are just waiting for us to turn our backs!

Then as of last night winter has indeed returned. Hopefully for a final performance with a 8" snowfall prediction this weekend. Thus far we are up to several inches and still snowing.
