Canning Tally

This is a tally of our attempts at keeping a well stocked pantry. Here in Hickery Holler we produce our own vegetables in three gardens located through out the property. Three gardens enable us to grow heirlooms and save seeds without cross pollination. Most of our summer is spent preserving that harvest. We also gather wild edibles and produce our own fruit as well as pork, chicken, turkey, rabbit and eggs. We catch our fish in one of the three ponds on the property as well as harvest an assortment of wild game.

  1. Isn't it wonderful to look at all that you have accomplished? When we are in the middle of it we think it will never end, but when summer is here your ready to do it all over again.
    Thanks for sharing.
    God bless,

  2. Wow! That is impressive! I am still pretty new at canning. Last year I did a lot of chopped tomatoes, salsa, dilly beans, and crushed tomatoes. Not nearly enough to feed us all winter, but it helped some. I'm hoping to do a lot more this year!

  4. I want to say thank you for your blog! love knowing that if there is a recipe that I dont have for canning my first plan of action is to get on your blog knowing you will have it. This year I have canned non stop! My neighbors think im crasy! they even laugh when they se me sitting on the porch snapping a bushel of beans haha to them too as we wont be eating monsonto veggies nor will we have to worry about all the msg and other junk the store bought brands put in our food and nor will we have to push through the snow to get the groceries. I live in the big city of toledo ohio so having a hard time finding local growers to get my produce in large quantities it's pretty expensive for bushels of veggies and my yard is rather small to grow things :( You are truly blessed! LOve your blog thank you sooooo much!Joie Lynn

  10. So inspiring. Looks like my old pantry before I developed lupus nephritis. We had a farm but my husband divorced me.and now I live in town. But have 1+ acre I hope to grow as much as my health allows. I miss the animals & gardens.
