They may be a month late but they sure are good! My Doyle blackberries are loaded and loving the cooler temperatures of late. My blackberry brambles, grape vines and fruit trees were some of the best investments I made early on after buying this farm. They have paid off a 100 plus times in food they have produced through the years with little or no upkeep.
Lots of blackberry bread and cobbler this winter for my family ! Most of these I will freeze since I have more jelly and jam right now than I need. These things are big as the end of my thumb and juicy with the rain of late. Baby O has been eating them just in a bowl with whipped cream on them.

Yum! When we were young we used to forage for berries. My granddaddy always seemed to know just where to go -- magic to a child's eyes...lol
ReplyDeleteIf I was ever addicted to something, it has to be jam! A jar does not last long in my hands, and my husband even knows when hes at a market to pick me up some homemade jam to earn extra points with me. I planted strawberry and blueberry this year, so that next year I will hopefully be canning and eating my own next year!
ReplyDeleteWhen I had children at home I went through tons of jam for all those PBJ's. Now I have tons of fruit and no kids at home to eat it but one who may eat a little every now and then but not much. Baby O is a real no frills kind of girl. She eats salads fresh with NO dressings. Eats sandwiches with NO condiments. NO mayo, mustard or ketchup for her. Veggies she prefers with a LITTLE butter and a TOUCH of salt. What a kid : )
DeleteI love reading your blog, it is full of helpful information. Thank you. I have been trying to figure out the best way to water my garden. Some veggies don't mind beening watered with a sprinkler and some like my squash and cucumber plants don't like their leaves getting wet. How do you water your gardens? What time of day do you water?
ReplyDeleteIf we water O Wise One sets up the sprinklers or soaker hoses the evening before. Then he gets up about 5:30 am and goes out and turns on the water to them. He will let them run until about 8:00 am and then turn them off. We actually water very little allowing our plants to develop good root systems that go deep for that water. I believe that watering too often will keep those roots shallow weakening your plant. We do water during dry spells and droughts though. We are also firm believers in mulch to hold that moisture in and protect not only the moisture but the soil while discouraging weeds.
DeleteOk thanks :)
DeleteThose look so good! My grandma always made jams from her vines. And some kind of great sauce for ice cream. Mmmmm...I can almost taste them!
ReplyDeleteA bowl of berries with whipped cream sounds AMAZING!
